Tips to ensure a well fitting bra
- The best guide to your current bra size is a comfortable existing bra, however, style and fit will change according to manufacturer and you may find that you will need a different size in some bras.
- A bra that fits you properly will be snug against the body. The fastening strap should fit straight across your back without riding up and your breasts should be comfortably contained within the cups, with no overspill or bulging.
- Any underwires should be completely underneath your breasts, never on top of them and they should lie flat against your body without digging in to the breast tissue.
- If your breasts overspill or bulge out of the cup when you try on a bra, you need to try a larger cup size.
- If your bra cups look saggy, they are too big and you should try a smaller cup size.
- If your back fastening strap rides up, it is too big. Either tighten it by fastening it on a different hook and eye, or try a smaller band size, e.g. a 32 instead of a 34.
- When buying a bra, always select a band size that fits you on the loosest hook and eye, as your bra will stretch a little over time and you will need to use the middle and inner hook and eye to retain a good fit over the life of your bra.
- Try on a t-shirt over your new bra to get the best idea of the shape it gives you.
- Check out our style guide to find out which bras give va va voom, smooth silhouettes or good support, depending on your needs.
- If you are wearing sheer or see through clothes, choose a bra in skin tone as this is the only shade that won't show through obtrusively!
